Creating art experiences for students of all ages is core to the Spencer Museum’s mission. Whether exploring the galleries with their classes, researching on their own, or serving as an intern, students are essential to our work of enhancing education through art.
University of Kansas undergraduate and graduate students support our staff in all departments, including curatorial, collections, administration, communications and education. Interdisciplinary internships and employment opportunities allow students to engage in new ways of working with the arts and education while inspiring and advancing their career goals.
We also introduce many students to art through our longstanding partnership with USD 497 that includes gallery visits for third-, fourth-, and fifth-graders reaching 2,000 K–12 students annually. These visits provide a critical connection to the arts from a young age that helps diversify the future of arts organizations and museum professionals at the Spencer and beyond.
Your contribution to today’s campaign will strengthen the Museum’s capacity to provide meaningful work experiences for university students, as well as funding to continue busing elementary students to visit our galleries. With your help, we can expand the reach of the Museum’s deep and diverse collection to students of all ages and backgrounds.
As a bonus, a gift of $50.00 or more enrolls you as a Friend of the Art Museum, granting you exclusive invitations to member events and behind-the-scenes details through our award-winning newsletter.
