Life Span Institute
Strengthening Children's Lives Through Science and Community Engagement

The Juniper Gardens Children's Project – a part of the Life Span Institute – has developed meaningful solutions to improve the care and educational experience of children in the Greater Kansas City area and beyond since 1961. Our ongoing collaborations with our local urban community, KU faculty and students, and partner organizations are vital to our work. Together, we leverage public support and private giving to create a healthy and equitable future for the children and families in our community. We carry out cutting-edge research leading to new discoveries about how children develop, and how to enhance their learning. We study how families, teachers and caregivers can best promote children’s outcomes, and we make our research useful and accessible to educational professionals, clinicians, families and the public. The core mission of our work is to improve children’s well-being and academic achievement by improving the quality of their educational experiences.

Juniper Gardens Children’s Project has a strong tradition of developing the next generation of researchers and educators through mentorship and training programs. As we continue to build on this tradition, your donation will enable us to expand current training programs as well as build new ones. With your donation, we will develop a new emerging scholars’ program for first generation college students who are interested in learning about community-engaged research. Specifically, your support will allow for the creation of new internships  that provide meaningful opportunities for students to become involved in community engaged research aimed at improving the lives of underserved children. Secondly, your donation will allow us to provide additional professional development training opportunities in evidence-based practices to local educators. These trainings will enable educators to develop skills that will help them support all children in reaching their potential.

Your #OneDayOneKU donation to the Juniper Gardens Children’s Project will directly impact first-generation college students at the University of Kansas and local educators. Join us in improving the education and well-being of children in this community and across the country for generations to come!
